FSM items "officially" translated into other langu

Postby Jean Bart on Thu Jan 18, 2007 5:41 pm

What are the "official" translations of the main FSM items (Flying Spaghetti Monster, Pastafarian, Pastafarianism, Pirate, Stripper Factory, etc.) in, let us say, French, German, Spanish, Dutch? It would be nice to be able to reach people less familiar with English. OK, I cannot imagine any traduction of Pirate Talk, so that part of Pastafarianism could become a more mysterious item. Equally I can't imagine Pirate Talk as a way to teach people English. Pirates, no offence intended! :fsm_yarr:
"Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition!" (Michael Palin in Monty Python's Flying Circus, Season 2, Episode 2)
"Je préfère le vin d'ici à l'eau de là" (Francis Blanche)
"Nu zijn er wel die mij niet mogen, of onverschillig langs mij gaan. Met liefde en met mededogen zie ik die vuile schoften aan! (Drs. P in "Jubelzang")
"Tuez-les tous, Dieu reconnaîtra les siens." (phrase attribuée à Arnaud Amaury, légat du Pape, à l'occasion de la prise de Béziers en 1209)

I guess many of the Wikipedia article on FSM are about as "official" as official can get. Over there, the FSM is variously known as Il Mostro Spaghetti Volante, Vliegend Spaghettimonster, Летающий Макаронный Монстр, 空飛ぶスパゲッティ・モンスタ, ...

Nice link. Having Dutch as first language, I took a peek at the Dutch version, but that translator added some details about FSM I never heard of. He (she) probably found those in the gospel (which I haven't got... yet), or else interpreted very freely some things

For Norwegian, I submit the following translations:

The Flying Spaghetti Monster - Det Flygende Spagettimonsteret (or, more formally, Det Flygende Spagettimonster; oh yeah, I'm bending Norwegian capitalization rules to honor Him)
Pastafarian - pastafari (or perhaps pastafarianer)
Pastafarianism - Pastafarisme
His Noodliness - Hans Nuddelhet (or perhaps Hans Nuddelaktighet)
His Noodly Appendage - Hans Nuddelaktige Tentakkel (not entirely certain)

In German you could translate these words as followed:

The Flying Spaghetti Monster - Das Fliegende Spaghettimonster
Pastafarian - Pastafarier
Pastafarianism - Pastafarismus
His Noodliness - Seine Nudeligkeit

I prefer Pastafarianer as german for Pastafarians.
Stripper Factory = Strippfabrik
His Noodly Appendage = Sein Nudeliges Anhängsel

Pastafarier vs. Pastafarianer...

Mostly, the shortest and easiest words tend to win...
"Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition!" (Michael Palin in Monty Python's Flying Circus, Season 2, Episode 2)
"Je préfère le vin d'ici à l'eau de là" (Francis Blanche)

Postby Andrey Kurtenkov on Thu Mar 06, 2008 2:33 pm

:fsm: You can see translations to Bulgarian (in Cyrillic alphabet of course) here - http://kurtenkov.blogspot.com/ - in the article named “Pastafarian items officially translated into Bulgarian languageâ€￾. We shall continuously improve our bulgar-pastafar language ( :fsm_rock: ) and respectively correct translations in the article. :o

In Latin, Monstrum Volans Pastagenitum seems OK to me but I'm not sure about 'noodly' or 'appendage'.

Tactus sum ab appendatione suo ..... ???
