A Father And His Daughter...

Postby AFTERGLOW on Thu Aug 24, 2006 4:58 pm

A father watched his young daughter playing in the garden. He smiled as he reflected on how sweet and pure his little girl was. He thought about her seeing the wonders of nature through such innocent eyes.
Suddenly she just stopped and stared at the ground. He went over to her to see what work of God had captured her attention. He saw that she was looking at two spiders mating. "Daddy, what are those two spiders doing?" she asked.

"They're mating," he replied.

"What do you call the spider on top?" she asked.

"That's a Daddy Longlegs," her father answered.

"So, the other one is a Mommy Longlegs?" the little girl asked.

As his heart soared with the joy of such a cute and innocent question,
he replied "No dear. Both of them are Daddy Longlegs."

The little girl, looking a little puzzled, thought for a moment, then took her foot and stomped them flat. She exclaimed, "Well, we're not having any of that Brokeback-Mountain sh*t in our garden!"
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg..

I laugh because it's funny how the daughter's actions are completely incongruent with her expected innocence.. Then with a sickening jolt, I remember that this scenario is actually very real in our society, and laughter quickly turns into sobbing....

Reminds me about a cartoon I saw in Private Eye.

Showbiz reporter: "So, Ang Lee, director of Brokeback Mountain, what's the film about?"
Ang Lee: "Well, there's these two brokes..."

You get some hilarious cartoons in Private Eye. I think private Eye's golden age was the 1980s. I remember one cartoon in which a yob was hanging on to the lead of a Pit Bull terrier and saying 'He loves children'...next panel the dog was lying dead with the caption: 'That's why we had to have him put down'.
