They are using the castle from Monty Python and the Holy Grail as Winterfell.

I was in the middle of the last book (so far) when school hit me like a brick. i have no idea where I am anymore, so i have to re-read it. Fuuuuuuu.

The Earthsea series by Ursula K Le Guin?

That brings back some memories! Have you read The Wind's Twelve Quarters --
"Direction of the Road" is one of my perennial favorites; I read it once to someone who wanted to be 'entertained' while tripping and he nearly had a psychotic episode. :haha:

And The Lathe of Heaven.

George R R Martin wrote another small series of books set approximately ninety years before the Song of Ice and Fire series, called The Tales of Dunk and Egg. There are three so far: The Hedge Knight; The Sworn Sword; and The Mystery Knight. Several more are to follow eventually, dealing with the two main protagonists of the mini-series. I have them to read once i've started and finished A Dance With Dragons.

So, more than two years after this thread died I have started reading the Song of Ice and Fire books.

Better than the TV series anyway...
