According to what my mother heard, the amount of water they'll have to pump out is more than the entire US uses in a day.

It's COLD!!!

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

At the moment it isn't raining, so the floods are slowly going down. If it stays dry for even 2 or 3 days, the river flood barriers will be able to be removed in Hereford and several towns hereabouts. The road between us and the next village east will be open again. Praise our Noodly Master!

It was miserable up in Manchester but at least we didn't have to endure flooding. Hope you weren't affected.

No, it never gets to us. But you've been on our village bridge: on the far side everything is under water as far as the distant hills. This means visiting several of our friends is 2 or 3 times as far.
