Patrick Moore...

Genuinely upset by him going...I knew it was coming but he's still a great loss.

Ravi Shankar, 92, complications following a heart valve replacement.

If you haven't seen Ravi Shankar's performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, you really should do so.

A great loss to the world of music. Still more distressing is the fact that a very old friend of mine is going in for the same valve replacement surgery very soon. She is considerably younger than he was, but still.

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."
