While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe this!'

I heard that they found about 200 dead crows near Topeka, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu.

They had a Bird Pathologist examine the remains of all the crows, & he confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu, to everyone's relief. However, he determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, & only 2% were killed by an impact with a car.

The State then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine the disproportionate percentages for truck versus car kill. The Ornithological Behaviorist determined the cause in short order. When crows eat road kill, they always set-up a look-out Crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger.

His conclusion was that all the lookout crows could say "Caw", but none
could say "Truck."

Nearly two hundred crows were found dead on a highway near Topeka, Kansas.

As there was concern that they may have died from Bird Flu, a Bird Pathologist examined the remains. Thankfully, he determined they did not die of bird flu, but instead by trauma from vehicular impact. Oddly, 98% had been hit by trucks, while only 2% had been hit by cars.

Due to the irregularities and the possibility of an unknown disease affecting birds to make them want to breed with moving trucks, the Kansas Bureau of Health hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine the reason behind the disproportionate percentages for crows killed by impact with car and crows killed by impact with truck.

The Ornithological Behaviorist discovered the cause in short order. As crows are extremely intelligent birds, one of their flock always performs the duty of lookout when they peck at roadkill on the highway.

However, they were not intelligent enough to realize that, although every member of the flock can saw "Caw!", not one can say "Truck!"
