Joe, I'm intrigued by this one.

Following the failed devolution referendum of 1979, we had four successive governments voted in by English electors. Scotland voted Labour four times and got a Conservative government four times. In 1992, after the fourth 'unelected' government, some SNP campaigners set up a caravan to hold a Vigil outside the Royal High School in Edinburgh (proposed site for a Scottish Parliament) to be a campaign headquarters for the Devolution / Independence cause.

The caravan was taken away after the successful Devolution referendum in 1997 and the establishment of a Scottish Parliament in 1999 (at Holyrood, not the Royal High School as previously proposed). I know that the caravan has been preserved somewhere, but I am not at liberty to say where.

But it was an SNP thing, not a Labour Party thing. Dennis Canavan was a vocal exponent of Devolution and a Scottish Assembly / Parliament, but he was nothing to do with the caravan or the Vigil for a Scottish Parliament.

I suspect the cartoonist knows the words 'Canavan' and 'Caravan', but doesn't understand the back story. Dennis Canavan may have supported Devolution, but he was opposed to the guys holding vigil in the caravan, and they were opposed to him.

Can someone explain the last few cartoons (apart from the caravan one)? I take it Anthony Weiner has been sending pictures of his genitals to other people again? It's a shame, the thing I remember him for is this beautifully honest rant.

Yeah, he did some great things.

Apparently he'd rather take/send flagrant selfies than actually do more great things. Sad.

Weiner is running for Mayor of NYC and, not even slightly out of the gate, the press brought to our attention that despite his resignation during the first sexting scandal and his promise to stop sexting, he has continue to with more women. Wish I could find the photos and comments easily, but I read a lot of this on twitter. My favorite part of his sexting conversation was how his taking about the health-care policies were a real turn-on.

Anthony Weiner has a serious sex addiction problem, but I am happy that he hasn't pulled out of the race . . . no pun intended. I loved a lot of his politics. Granted his election as NYC Mayor has little effect on me.

You have to admit that he's holding up well under all the scrutiny, acting as though it's all irrelevant to his campaign. He's really putting his best foot forward, as it were. Keeping a positive attitude in spite of everyone laughing at him. It must be eating away at him inside, but he's not letting it show. Really keeping up the act. If he manages to actually win the election, he should get some kind of award for being such a good actor.

It would be an Oscar for Mayor Weiner.

I used that somewhere the other day, I hope it wasn't here.

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."
